“Micarlin again you’ve beaten me!” Ni’Xuin laughed, mixing the tiles from the board, “One day I wish to best you at this.” The dojo and Tea house is always a busy place. Oshiegos coming to study and hone their skills, citizens of the city stopping in for tea and gossip, “Is it true troubles will reach our shores again?”, or “Did you see all the people in the Tea house last night not an inch of room.” So it was no surprise to see the Shodan Shilo walk through the doors. Lately his presence brought a smile to Ni, but today something was different. Picking the tiles for play from the pile, Ni lazily listened to the chatter swarming round her, the high and low drop in voices discussing a dozen topics at once.
Carefully picking the pieces, Ni’Xuin let her eyes follow Shilo crossing the room, “Ni’Xuin pay attention!” Micarlin leaned over picking them from the floor, looking up at her noticing her gaze Micarlin pursed her lips, winking at Ni making her turn bright red.
The glass pitcher hit the floor with such force glass shot off in every direction. All eyes were on the corner of the room, Shilo narrowed his eyes at the Oshiego, Edda whispered something to him, and Shilo turned abruptly shaking off her hand and rushed out the door, the Oshiego fast on his heels.
Micarlin and Ni looked at each other utterly confused “Will you excuse me from this game Micarlin?” With a small frown and a wave of her hand, Ni bowed to her and the others as the women continued with the game. Ni picked up as much of her kimono walking quickly down the road towards the center of the city. Blossoms were just starting to bud, “Soon will be time for the Faire”, she thought in her head nodding to the townspeople that bowed to her out of respect for her brother the Soke. And there at the pond crouching by the edge Shilo was throwing pebbles in the water. Quietly sitting on the steps leading to the bank Ni watched briefly, spoke in a small voice, “Something troubling you Shodan? The shards of glass seem to prove that.” Moving in one movement standing over her, “Troubling ….TROUBLING!” HE SHOUTED. Shocked and embarrassed Ni stood keeping her head lowered, eyes to the ground she scurried back to the road..
