To keep things simple I have gone with the basic rank structure of the feudal era for the Tokuno Defense Forces. These ranks are based on the service performed by and actions taken by the individual. They are as follows:
Shogun – Commander of the military Forces, recommend and/or appointed by the Council and/or Empress.
Kyunin – Officers;
Daimyo – Greater Lord, This rank is recommended by the Shogun and/ or Council, Appointed by the Empress.
Shomyo – Lesser Lord, This rank is appointed by a Daimyo that controls the appointee.
Samurai – Senior Military member, appointed by a Daimyo that controls the appointee.
Bushi – Professional Soldier that has some command authority, this rank is recommended by a Samurai, Appointed by the Shomyo or Daimyo of that clan.
KACHI – Soldiers/Sailors;
Rikusou – Small unit leader is appointed by his Samurai.
Ashigaru – Member of the main body of the army or navy, appointed by his Samurai.
Chugen – A new recruit of the military, is the bottom of the military food chain.
HININ – Others;
During times of war or military action, these are troops that are provide by the citizenry of the nation to support the military. These duties can include but are not limited to the following;
Ronin (masterless samurai)
Ikko-Ikki (rebel peasants)
Sohei (warrior monks).
Shukenja (Healers)
Wu Jen (Sorcerers and magical arts)
Craftsmen (smiths, tinkers, tailors etc.)
This is definitely the position of status within the clan granting the most independence; the most freedom in terms of showing up to battles, attending practice, and other responsibilities. Only a small number the Military are Hinin; they cannot for one reason or another regularly attend practices and battles, be it due to distance or lack of time.
This is the requirements for promotion within the guild itself;
Ronin:
